Abstract The Indian Crested Porcupine (Hystrix indica) is classified as an agricultural pest species. It feeds on plants and crops; hence, it responsible for massive financial losses worldwide. current study was conducted to assess the diet composition of in District Bagh, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJ&K). Thus, fecal samples were collected examined from different sampling sites. Reference slides material area prepared identification dietary components pellets. A total 80 processed. Percent relative frequencies (P.R.F.) calculated each plant species recovered Data revealed that consumed 31 its diet, among them Zea mays (34.31±7.76) most frequently selected followed by Rumex obtusifolius (15.32±2.57) Melia azedarach (12.83±4.79). greatest diversity (n=20) summer season while minimum (n=13) used during winter. Among parts plants, stem highly spring (57.2%) compared seed fall (36.7%) spikes leaf least matter. Berger-Parker index showed diversified food (10.92) time year autumn (2.95). This provides a baseline preference this area. Based findings, detailed investigation damage assessment, exploration, habitat use management AJ&K has been recommended.
